Purpose of Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the elements of the different types of employment relationships and to analyze the ethics behind potentially discriminatory employment policies.
Scenario: An employee is hired by Dream Massage to be a massage therapist. She is hired as an independent contractor and, therefore, receives no tax withholding or employment benefits. Dream Massage requires the employee to work a set schedule, provides her clients and all her massage products, and exercises complete control over how she does her work. In addition, when the employee shows up to work the first day, she is informed by her employer she cannot wear her hijab as it violates the company's dress policy.
Create a 700- to 1,050-word report in which you examine the employment issues presented in the scenario, including the following:
- Analyze whether the employee qualifies as an employee or independent contractor.
- Discuss whether Dream Massage has potentially violated any employment discrimination laws.
- Analyze the ethical considerations behind maintaining a rigid company dress policy.
Cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed references.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
INTERVIEW 2 Interview and Home/School Communication Parent involvement and the relationship parents have with their child’s teacher/school are important for all children. This is especially true for children with disabilities. For this assignment, I was asked to contact a local preschool, Head Start, or Early Head Start program and interview a director, teacher, or parent coordinator to find out how they collaborate and communicate with families who have children with learning differences. Interview. On Friday, October 10 th over lunch break I met with Mrs. Desiree Phillips. I brought Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and had a nice conversation and interview period with Mrs. Phillips. Phillips is the Director of the Brewerton Community Daycare Center. She works with and manages the teachers who teach children who are from 6 weeks of age up to school age in her daycare center program. The following is what Mrs. Desiree Phillips had to say with the questions we discussed. Questions. 1. How do families get information at the time of enrollment? Is there a handbook for the center? What resources does the center offer to families? Before a child can start with our program they must do a tour of the center. During this tour, parents are given a packet of information. This packet includes: a parent handbook, a sheet of paper with important information that highlights the important facts from the parent handbook called “What Parents Need to Know”, finally there is a small packet of information that tells parents what resources are available through local resources.
